The Jefferson Garden Club’s 2014 Tour of Homes will offer a variety of homes ranging from early 1900 Arts and Crafts to the 1970 ranch.
The four homes on the tour will be decorated for the holidays with “Christmas Splendor,” this year’s theme. The Tour of Homes takes place Dec. 6 from noon to 5 pm.
Tickets are available from Garden Club members, and at Home State Bank, Peoples Trust & Savings Bank (Jefferson) and The Printer’s Box. On the day of the walk, tickets may be purchased only at The Printer’s Box and in the Greene County courthouse rotunda, where the club will provide refreshments and display holiday table settings.
Danelle and Todd Mason have done extensive remodeling to their American Foursquare five-bedroom home on W. Madison St. New copper ceilings, ceramic tile, an expanded kitchen and refinished dark oak woodwork compliment the main floor. Danelle uses different ideas for holiday decorating. A large jungle themed Christmas tree on the main floor and snow and crystal adornments upstairs are just two examples.
Jean Gliem adorns her home with favorite pieces. Visitors will see stuffed bears made from her mother’s fur coats. Another treasure is her father’s WWII Army uniform. Jean has spent time remodeling her four-bedroom ranch style home on Riverside Drive with a new kitchen and family room.
The Arts and Crafts style home owned by Katie and Guy Richardson is the oldest on the tour. Built in 1912, this four-bedroom home on S. Chestnut St features original hardwood floors and oak woodwork. The Richardsons have been renovating their home since moving there in 1999. Recently a master suite was added to the main floor. Katie will use her florist skills to trim two Christmas trees. Her dining table will be set with Furstenberg china, a family heirloom.
Another stately house on S. Chestnut St is owned by Rhonda and Curt Nelson. The Prairie style three-bedroom home was built in 1917. For more than a year, the Nelsons have been renovating their brick home, keeping the original style intact. The sun porch, used year round, shows off their ISU Cyclone collection.
